10.28.2016 The Bailliage des Etats-Unis of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs presented a lifetime achievement award to writer and noted TV personality Robin Leach, best known for his television show “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” During the presentation Robin autographed a copy of his book “Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams” that has been placed in the Chaîne’s Library at The Chaîne House.
10.25.2016 The Chaîne des Rôtisseurs was Celebrated for holding its Grand Chapître in Las Vegas in an article that appeared in the October, 2016 issue of Luxury Las Veagas, when they referred to us an an International “Foodie Consortium.” Click here for a link to the article.
10.24.2016 The Chaîne and its Foundation have given more than $750,000 for scholarships awarded to students at the Culinary Institute of America, along with Brillat-Savarin Awards for students. That giving is depicted in questions posed to Bailli Délégué Harold Small and his responses, along with questions posed to an Academie Brillat Savarin Medal of Merit recipent Rachel Sherriffe on the opposite page. 10.19.2016 Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnel of the Bailliage des Etats-Unis Dr. Reimund D. Pitz, CEC, CCE, AAC, ECMC, and a past President of the American Culinary Federation, has been named as a member of the International Chaine’s Advisory Committee for the International Jeunes Chefs Rotisseurs Competition. Congratulations REimund! The Committee will provide advice and counsel regarding all aspects of the competition. Others named to the Advisory Board Include Klaus Bohler of Germany, Daniel Galmiche of Great Britain, Takashi Murakami of Canada and Barry Zimmerman of Australia.

10.13.2016 Maître d’Honneur Patrick O’Connell, owner of The Inn at Little Washington was awarded two Michelin stars (the highest ranking given) in the inaugural issue of the Michelin Guide for Washington, DC. Confgratulations Patrick!
10.11.2016 Applications are now open for the 2017 Chaîne Young Sommelier Competition! The first round test will be given online on December 3, 2016. U.S. sommeliers who are at least 21 on December 3, 2016 and won’t yet be 31 on September 30, 2017 are eligible to compete. This year offers the most generous prizes ever, and there’s no cost to participate. 9.21.2016 Dorothea Hunter Sönne, Food and Wine Editor of Gulfshore Life was awarded third place in the category of Non-Newspaper Feature Article by the Association of Food Journalists for her article about the Chaîne titled, “Eat, Drink and be Knighted“. The Association of Food Journalist is a professional organization founded in 1974 and dedicated to preserving and perpetuating responsible food journalism across media platforms. She liked what she saw and experienced while researching the article and has now become a member of the Naples Bailliage of the Chaîne.
8.26.2016 Sommelier Martin Sheehan-Stross of the San Francisco Bailliage and Michael Mina Restaurant was named the best Young Sommelier in the World at the International Competition in Vaduz, Lichenstein. Click here for access to the Press Release.
7.17.2016 Maître Rôtisseur Jacqueline Bamrick, CEC (Buffalo Bailliage) and Bailli Jean Yves Vendeville, CEPC (Savannah Bailliage) were inducted into the American Academy of Chefs and Bailli Délégué Harold Small was inducted as an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Chefs during their annual meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. Congratulations!
7.17.2016 ACF President and Maître Rôtisseur Tom Macrina (Pittsburgh Bailliage), AAC President and Maître Rôtisseur Mark Wright (Buffalo Bailliage), HBOT Chairman and Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Honoraire Bert Cutino, and Vice Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Michael Ty were each presented with a Brillat-Savarin Médaille de Mérite during the gala dinner of the American Academy of Chefs by Bailli Délégué Harold Small, with the assistance of Chancelier Heinze Hofmann and Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Reimund Pitz (also an ACF Past President).
7.17.2016 Chaîne Members received recognition by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) for their accoumplishments at their national meeting in Phoenix, Arizona, including Cutting Edge Chef Award recipient Maître Rôtisseur Robert Phillips (Los Angeles Bailliage) and Cutting Edge Chef Award recipient Chef Rôtisseur Peter Sproul (Salt Lake City Bailliage). Both were recognized with these awards during the ACF National Convention and meeting events. Chef Rôtisseur Kathleen Vossenberg, CCC, CCE, MBA (Orlando Bailliage) was one of the four finalists for the ACF Chef Educator of the Year. We are very proud of these Chaîne Members, their accomplishments and recognition by the ACF. Congratulations! Chef Rôtisseur Peter Sproul of Utah Valley University was the coach for the ACF Student Chef of the Year Michelle Stephenson of Utah Valley University, their team won the ACF Knowledge Bowl, and Peter mentored Lyn Wells, our Chaîne U.S. National Chef of the Year.
7.17.2016 Maître Rôtisseur Randy Torres (Portland Bailliage) coached the winning team from the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute to a Gold Medal and 2016 winner of the ACF Student Team national Championship. Congratulations Randy! Also, we want to extend congratulations to the team from Johnson County Community College, of Overland Park, Kansas, coached by Maître Hôtelier Edaward Adel, CEC, and Maître Restaurateur Felix Sturmer both of the Kansas City Bailliage, as well as the other competing teams and coaches.

6.21.2016 World Certified Master Chef and our Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Reimund Pitz, CEC, CCE, AAC, WCMC, is the first person selected by Canada Bailli Délégué David Tetrault (and Président du Comité des Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs) to be on the Culinary Advisory Board to the International Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Committee of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. The newly created Culinary Advisory Board’s purpose is to advise the Committee regarding all aspects of staging our International competition using current industry practices to keep the competition relevant. The members will include Certified Master Chefs, Master Chefs or Executive Chefs (senior culinary professionals with experience in competitions and mentoring of chefs), two each from North America, Europe and Asia/Australia, and each to serve for two years. We are very proud of Chef Pitz (one of the most awarded and decorated chefs in the world and having been honored as the USA’s Chef of the Year) and all that he has done for young chefs and how this will expand those opportunities. Congratulations!!!
6.11.2016 Chef Rôtisseur Lyn Wells of Salt Lake City, Utah (Far West Region), was the winner of our National Competition to find the Best Young Chef. Kevin Maier of the Southeast Region placed second and Ian Sagayaga of the Hawaii/Pacific Islands Region placed third. The announcements were made at the gala induction dinner marking the culmination of the national competition and the end of the first ever Culinary Weekend of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage des Etats-Unis in Sarasota, Florida, at Keiser University. 6.11.2016 Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels des Etats-Unis Reimund Pitz was presented with the Brillat-Savarin Fondateur Award. At the time of presentation by Bailli Délégué Harold Small, he praised the amazing efforts and accomplishments of Dr. Pitz within the Chaîne, the American Culinary Federation (ACF), the American Academy of Chefs (AAC), and countless other groups and individuals that he has assisted and mentored. This award is only presented once per year.
6.11.2016 Maître Rôtisseur Americo S. DiFronzo, of the Colonial New England Bailliage of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage des Etats-Unis, soon after being inducted as a member of the elite group of the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque (only 100 chefs). Congratulations Rico!!! Yes, some of the other chefs in this elite group are also members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Bailliage des Etats-Unis. Among the Chaîne members that are already members of the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque are Charles Carroll, John Folse, Michael Garbin, Karl Guggenmos, Tom Macrina, Reimund Pitz, and others.

6.1.2016 Vail Bailli Suzanne Hoffman has written the just released book Labor of Love: Wine Family Women of Piemonte, about some of the notable families of wine producers of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrto regions of Piemonte, Italy. 5.19.2016 Las Vegas Bailli Larry Ruvo was profiled in Las Vegas Weekly (May 19-25, 2016) regarding not only what he has done in Las Vegas, rising from a bus boy to one of the notables in that city. 5.17.2016 Chaîne U.S. Members Buffalo Maître Rôtisseur Mark Wright, CEC, AAC, and Sarasota Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Southeast Rene Marquis, CEC, AAC were inducted into the Canadian Culinary Federation’s Honor Society, together with Claudio Ferrer, CEC, AAC, HOF, at a gala induction dinner at Essex Gold & Country Club in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. 4.29.2016 Young Sommelier Martin Sheehan-Stross of San Francisco’s Michael Mina Restaurant has won the 2016 Chaîne Young Sommeliers Competition presented by Moët & Chandon. Morgan Harris of Aureole Restaurant in NYC placed second, and Steven Gullo of Paramour at the Wayne Hotel in Wayne, PA finished third. The finals were held on Friday, April 29 in Sonoma, CA. Congratulations to all nine finalists, and thanks to sponsor Moët & Chandon and major prize contributor CIVB (the Bordeaux Council)!

3.7.2016 Moët & Chandon announced today its partnering with the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs as the title sponsor of its Young Sommeliers Competition. The competition will be from April 28-30 in Sonoma, California, to find the best young sommelier in the country. 11.21.2015 Chef Rôtisseur Stafford T. DeCambra of the Hawaii Island Bailliage was recognized by the ACF Chicago Chefs of Cuisine Association at their 34th Annual American Academy of Chef’s Regional Gala Dinner as the recipient of their 2015 Honor Chef Award for his leadership of and service to the American Academy of Chefs as its Chairman. Congratulations Stafford.
11.17.2015 Bailli Délégué Honoraire Dr. David Wilson has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Johnson & Wales. David has served for a number of years as a Member of the Corporation in an advisory capacity.
11.16.2015 Chaîne Foundation Scholarships were presented by Rhode Island Bailli Paul Damiano and Bailli Délégué Honoraire David Wilson at the Johnson & Wales Providence Campus. Also participating in the presentation were Chancellor and Conseiller de la Toque Honoraire John Bowen, Dean and Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Honoraire Peter Lehmuller, Assistant Dean and Vice Conseiller Culinaire Thomas Delle Donne and Director of Developement & Alumni Relations Steven C. Shipley. For many years the Chaîne and its Foundation have provided thousands of dollars of scholarships for Johnson & Wales students at the various campuses.

10.27.2015 Bailli Delegue Harold Small, Foundation Chair John Burson and Foundation Friends participated in the “chain cutting” of the first Chaine Kitchen in the Caribbean Islands, together with Universidad del Estate Chancelllor Alberto Maldonado Ruiz, Esq. and Dean of the Jose A. (Tony) Santana International School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts Terestella Gonzalez Denton, at the University’s campus near to San Juan, Puerto Rico,. The hospitality professionals and culinary artisans training at this wonderful educational institution will advance their training with scholarship funds provided to the University. And they will also learn about the Chaine because of the relationship established between the university and the Chaine.

10.6.2015 The French Wine Society named Echanson Provincial Pacific Northwest David Glancy, MS, Educator of the Year (out of 10 countries on 5 continents). David has been a judge at our Young Sommeliers Competitions and organizes our Pacific Northwest Regional Young Sommeliers Competition. Congratulations David!
10.1.2015 Bailli Délégué Harold Small has been elected to a four year term as a member of the Honorary Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Chefs (AAC). 10.1.2015 The Board of Directors unanimously approved today the election of Conseiller Gastronomique Honoraire and Bailli Honoraire Lacey King, Chambellan Honoraire and Bailli Honoraire Martin Rakowitz, and Chambellan Provincial Honoraire and Bailli Honoraire Kermit Tucker of being designated as members of the Conseil d’Honneur and the recipients of Medals denoting this honor. Congratulations to all of them!
9.3.2015 Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Provincial Hawaii/Pacific Islands Grant Sato was the winner of the Global Taste of Korea Competition held August 18-12th, 2015 in Jeonju and Seoul, South Korea with his Hansang (Traditional Korean Coursed Meal). Grant bested 15 Chefs representing France, Australia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Uzbekistan, Chile, Malaysia, Russia, Kazakstan, Norway, Philippines, United Kingdom, Algeria, and Thailand, and is a culinary Instructor at Univeristy of Hawai’i Kapi’olani Community College on the island of Maui.

8.4.2015 Bailli Délégué Harold Small and Chancelier Heinz Hofmann were inducted as members of the Disciples of Escoffier USA, an honorary group with less than 200 members in the United States, at Le Coq Au Vin Restaurant in Orlando, Florida. Among the notable members are Chef Thomas Keller of the French Laundry and Per Se, Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Reimund Pitz, Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Provincial Southeast Rene Marquis, Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Provincial Far West Michael Ty, Vice Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Honoraire John Fisher, and Maître Rôtisseur Americo DeFronzo. Selection for induction is because of continued support and contributions to the culinary arts.

5.16.2015 The results of the Chaîne Young Sommeliers Competition are in! Our national winner for 2015 is Andrey Ivanov of St. Louis. Congratulations, Andrey! In second place is Mia Van de Water of New York City, and third is John Filkins of Baltimore. Additional details will be posted soon.

4.02.2015 Vice Chargé de Missions Honoraire Fred Wasserman of the San Diego Bailliage was honored by the UCLA Fielding School of Public Heath by being inducted into its Alumni Hall of Fame. In 1973 he formed a group practice of physicians and developed an early federally qualified HMO that grew to 2 million members in 26 states and created the model now known as “Accountable Care Organization.” His work in the HMO setting and the use of nurse practitioners, counseling, prospective review and quality assurance programs, and research focused on quality and satisfaction with care in this setting were very innovative.

2.28.2015 Peter Mondavi Sr., at 100 years of age, was inducted as the oldest Chaîne member by Bailli Délégué Harold Small. This brings membership to three generations of this celebrated wine family with members in attendance, including Peter Jr., Marc, Janice, Alycia, Angelina, and Riana Mondavi. Pair and Grand Echanson Honoraire Shelly Margolis inducted Peter Mondavi Sr. into the Société Mondiale du Vin USA. They along with friends and Napa-Sonoma Bailliage members and guests particpated in an extraordinary event at the Carriage House (built in 1881) at Charles Krug Winery orchestrated by Bailli Gene Daly and his officer team.
2.25.2015 Conseiller des Bailliages National Honoraire Joel Spiro was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) recognizing his service as President of their Society of Fellows. A number of other Chaîne members are currently part of the Society of Fellows, a group that provides support for the CIA.
2.10.2015 The Bailliage of Israel has invited Chaîne U.S. Members to join them in the celebration of their 50th Anniversary Grand Chapître from April 27 – May 3. 12.22.2014 On December 13, 2014, Maître Rôtisseur Michel Richard of the Washington, D.C. Bailliage was presented the insignia of Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur and Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merit by the Republic of France. Michel is one of the leading French chefs in the world and a long-time friend of the Chaîne. Michel has had an over 35-year love affair tantalizing discerning palates with extraordinary cuisine at his renowned fine dining restaurants Citrus and Citronelle restaurants in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Baltimore. Michel has been admitted into the acclaimed Traditions & Qualité, Les Grandes Tables du Monde, honored as “Best Chef of the Year” and “Best Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year” by Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington and inducted into the James Beard Foundation’s “Who’s Who” in American Food and Wine. 12.10.2014 On December 10, 2014, Paul S. Haar, Jurisconsult des Etats-Unis and Bailli Honoraire of the Washington, D.C. Bailliage of La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, was honored by the Republic of France at The Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. when Christopher Malvezin of the Embassy of France to the United States bestowed upon Paul the title of Chevalier de L’Ordre du Mérite Agricole, in recognition of his over 20 years of tireless dedication to the promotion of French gastornomy and wine in the United States.

Be sure to tune in and see Chef Evan Hennessey of the New Hampshire Bailliage on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay”. This episode, “Roll the Dice’ will air at 10:00 p.m. on Christmas Day. Chef Reimund Pitz can be seen on The Cooking Channel’s “Coming to America” on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 2:30PM EST, Monday, January 5, 2015 at 9:30AM EST, or Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 10:30AM EST.

Gastronome Extra! is the U.S. Chaîne’s all-digital national magazine (now in flip book form) and is a supplement to the U.S. Chaîne’s print magazine, Gastronome. 11.20.2014 Conseiller Gastronomique des Etats-Unis Ira Falk was honored by the San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival as Culinarian of the Year at their Celebrity Chef Gala. During the evening Chaîne scholarships were awarded and approximately $20,000 was raised for additional Chaîne scholarships to be awarded next year.
11.17.2014 The newest issue of La Revue Internationale de la Chaîne includes a marvelous feature article, Life at Sea Chaîne-Style, written by Greater Miami Bailli Nancy Radlauer and featuring cruise lines associated with the Chaîne and their ships, including Crystal, Holland America, Princess, Norwegian and Silversea. In this issue Chargée de Presse Michele Metter and Vice Chargée de Presse and Gastronome Editor-in-Chief Marie Addario appear in a photo with Bailli Délégué Harold Small.
11.17.2014 Chaîne Foundation scholarships were presented by Rhode Island Bailli Paul Damiano and Bailli Provincial Gabor Huszar at the Johnson & Wales Providence Campus. Also participating in the presentation were Dean of Culinary Education and Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Honoraire Peter Lehmuller, and Department Chair/Educator and Echanson Provincial Honoraire Edward Korry. For many years the Chaîne and its Foundation have provided thousands of dollars of scholarships for Johnson & Wales students at the various campuses.
10.31.2014 Napa-Sonoma Vice Chargé de Missions Jean-Charles Boisset was honored for his joie de vivre by the Pennsylvannia Academy of the Fine Arts at the Baccahanal 2014. Congratulations!
10.16.2014 The first-round of the 2015 Young Sommelier Competition will be held online on Saturday, December 6. To sign up, candidates should read the rules and fill out the application linked at the bottom of the Young Sommelier page on the Chaîne website. After the December 6 first-round test, up to the three highest-scoring competitors in the region will be invited to an in-person regional competition to be held between January and March. The national finals will be in Santa Barbara, CA on May 14-15, 2015. The competition is open to sommeliers age 30 and under and there’s no cost to participate.
10.06.2014 The Bailliage de Myrtle Beach of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is featured in The Sun News with comments by Chambellan Provincial/Bailli Tony Hirsh and Vice Chargé de Missions Tom Maeser regarding raising more than $425,000 for the Horry-Georgetown Technical College. We congratulate Jane on herhonors in what has been reported as intense competition among the world’s brightest young sommeliers.

9.15.2014 Napa-Sonoma Bailliage Vice Chargé de Missions Jean-Boisset and his wife Gina Gallo were awarded the Chuck Smith Award for Global Entrepreneurship by the John F. Kennedy University’s Institute of Entrepreneurial Leadership at a recent awards ceremony. Boisset, the proprietor of Boisset Family Estates, including Raymond, Buena Vista, JCB, Lyeth and other wineries has been a leader in the wine industry, as has his wife, winemaker for Gallo Signature Wines, Jean-Charles is assisting in building this Bailliage. Congratulations Jean-Charles and Gina!

7.13.2014 Bailli Délégué Harold Small elected to a three-year term as a member of the Conseil d’Administration (the 15-member governing Board of Directors of the International Organization) by the International General Assembly and will continue to serve as a member of the Conseil Magistral. Chancelier Heinz Hofmann and Bailli Délégué Honoraire Burton Hobson were each elected to one-year terms as members of the Conseil Magistral. 5.17.2014 The winner of the 2014 U.S. National Young Chefs Competition was Geoffrey Lanez from Rhode Island, representing the Northeast Region. Second place was awarded to Mike Reidy from California, representing the Far West Region, and third place was awarded to Marco Bahena from Illinois, representing the Midwest Region.
5.3.2014 On Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the finals of the Chaine Young Sommelier Competition in Carmel, CA, three sommeliers under 30 were victorious after a challenging day of testing. Congratulations to the three top finishers, and to all the other regional winners who competed! First Place – Jane Lopes of NYC, our first-ever female champion! Tied for First after initial Scoring – Andrey Ivanov of Saint Louis, MO and Third Place – John Filkins of Maryland and Pennsylvania. Click here for more information.
4.5.2014 Chancelier National Harold Small was elected Bailli Délégué Saturday following a mail-in ballot of the 186 eligible U.S. National Council members. Bailli Délégué-elect Small will be elevated in New Orleans in June and will begin a three-year term as Bailli Délégué July 1. Elected to serve as Chancelier National (Vice-President) was Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Heinz Hofmann. Southwest Bailli Provincial Rufus Cressend was elected to serve as Argentier National (Secretary/Treasurer). Indianapolis Bailli Renee Wilmeth was elected to serve as Midwest Bailli Provincial, and Southeast Bailli Provincial Charles Radlauer was elected to serve a second term starting July 1.
Running unopposed and deemed elected as Baillis Provinciaux were Gabor Huszar, Northeast Region; Bertrand de Boutray, Pacific Northwest Region; and Bill Salomon, Southwest Region. Unopposed incumbents for Bailli Provincial included Robin Jacobs, Mid-Atlantic Region, Tom Ruff, South Central Region; Ron Overend, Caribbean/Atlantic Islands Region; Bryan Stirrat, Far West Region; and Bruce Liebert, Hawaii/Pacific Islands Region. Also unopposed for Audit Committee were Far West Chambellan Provincial Hon. Ira Falk, Lake Shore Bailli Bruce Foudree, and Santa Fe Vice Conseiller Gastronomique Hon. Steve Lustig.
3.25.2014 Foundation Chair Shelly Margolis was elevated to the rank of Pair de la Chaîne by Bailli Délégué National George H. Brown, Jr. in a ceremony on March 25 in Naples, Florida. The Chaîne Board of Directors voted unanimously to honor Foundation Chair Margolis with the rank for his many years of service to the organization. The rank of pair (peer of the realm) is the highest honor afforded to Chaîne members. Congratulations Pair de la Chaîne Margolis!

12.31.2013 As we bid adieu to 2013, we raise our glasses to Professionnels du Vin Grace and Ken Evenstad, whose 2010 Reserve Pinot Noir was recently rated the third best wine of the year by Wine Spectator. It was the only U.S. Wine in the top three slots. Taking the number one spot was Cune Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva 2004, and number two was Château Canon-La Gaffelière St.-Emilion 2010. Three cheers for Domaine Serene Pinot Noir Willamettte Valley, Evenstad Reserve 2010!

07.01.2013 Daniel Scott Gorman, 26, tournant chef at the Inn at Little Washington, VA, took top honors in the Chaine’s national young chefs competition June 8 in Chicago. He was the Mid-Atlantic regional winner and vied against nine other regional winners from throughout the U.S. and Caribbean Islands at the culinary school of Kendall College in Chicago. “In my opinion,” stated Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National Heinz Hofmann, “what set Daniel apart from the rest of the field were his organizational skills surrounding his workplace and the surpreme cleanliness of his work. His food was by far the most savory and balanced of all presented. His plates were clean and not overloaded, and his portioning was just right.” Gorman will compete for the international title September 6 in Istanbul, Turkey.
06.30.2013 Nassau Chef Rôtisseur Dwayne Sinclair, the Chaîne’s 2013 Caribbean/Atlantic Islands regional best young chef, was also a gold medalist in the Taste of Caribbean competition held June 26-30 in Miami. 09.21.2012 American Christopher P. Bates, 31, general manager and executive chef at Hotel Fauchère in Milford, Pennsylvania, has brought home the gold as winner of the Chaîne’s Concours International des Jeunes Sommeliers held in Capetown, South Africa, on September 21. It was the fourth time in the six-year history of the contest that an American has taken the gold. Previous winners include Professionnel du Vin Ian Cauble in 2011, Chris Miller in 2008, and Drew Hendricks in 2007. Professionnel du Vin Bates took top honors in the U.S. Young Sommeliers Competition in Napa in May. The international contest attracted 12 national winners, nine men and three women, all of whom were under 35, the oldest age allowed. Runner-up was Great Britain’s Arnaud Bardary from Gordon Ramsay’s Maze in London, and third place went to Australian contestant Yuki Hirose of the Rockpool Bar and Grill, Sydney. The other nine countries represented in the international finals were: Austria, China, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, and Turkey. Winning this award required a tremendous amount of dedication and hard work from Christopher,” said U.S. Grand Echanson Bruce Nichols, “but more than that, it takes passion. To be at the very top if your game, to compete on the world stage, is a rare trait that many aspire to, but few achieve. So my genuine and heartfelt gratitude to Christopher. I am extremely proud of him.”
08.17.2012 U.S. Chaine Professionnel du Vin Ian Cauble and Professionnel du Vin Alex LaPratt have been selected to compete in the prestigious Pan-American Sommelier Competition in Brazil this October. The competition is held every three years, and contestants must compete in a language other than their native tongue. Professionnel du Vin Cauble will compete in Spanish, while Professionnel du Vin LaPratt has chosen to compete in French. Professionnel du Vin Cauble took the gold in the Chaine’s 2011 International Young Sommelier Competition, while Professionnel du Vin LaPratt has twice medaled in the Chaine’s National Young Sommelier Competition, taking the silver in 2011 and the bronze in 2012. Professionnel du Vin Cauble recently achieved Master Sommelier status, making him one of only 160 Master Sommeliers in the world. We wish both members continued success.
07.15.2012 The Chaîne Foundation on July 15 presented the American Academy of Chefs with a $10,000 check for scholarships for culinary students. In all, the Foundation has provided more than $500,000 in scholarship money to the AAC, which is an arm of the American Culinary Federation. Each year, 10 eligible culinary students receive a $1,000 Chaîne des Rôtisseurs scholarship through the AAC. The Chaîne also provides scholarship money to a number of culinary schools, including the Culinary Institute of America and Johnson & Wales University.
05.19.2012 Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels Heinz Hofmann announced that the winner of today’s U.S. National Young Chefs Competition was Ryan Manaut from Honolulu, representing the Hawaii/Pacific Islands region. He will represent the U.S. in the International Competition in Berlin, Germany, on September 14, 2012. The U.S.competition was hard fought, and the results were extremely close. Second place was awarded to Maria Lodyguina from Minneapolis, representing the Midwest region, and third place was awarded to Richmond Fowler II from Nassau, representing the Atlantic/Caribbean Islands region. “It gives me great pleasure to say that the Chaîne can be proud of all ten competitors, and we are represented by some very well-suited winners. A great big thank you to all the members of the New Orleans Bailliage who showed the competitors and members who attended the competition weekend the legendary high degree of hospitality of their city. I also want to thank the faculty and students of the Culinary Arts Department of the Delgado Community College under the guidance of Vice Conseiller Culinaire Provincial Dr. Mary Bartholomew. A special thank you also goes to Pierre Rausch, vice conseiller culinaire et des professionnels national, for his assistance with the competition.
05.05.2012 Master Sommelier candidate Christopher Bates was named the national Best Young Sommelier in America at the Chaine sponsored Young Sommelier Competition in Napa Valley, California. Grand Echanson Bruce Nichols will accompany Chris in September to Cape Town, South Africa, where he will look to bring home another Gold Medal For the U.S. in the International Competition. In a very close contest, Bobby Conroy of the award-winning Benu Restaurant in San Francisco placed second, while returning competitor, Alex Lepratt, recently of New York’s acclaimed Daniel Boulud Restaurant, took the Bronze Medal. Following the Awards Ceremony, 175 Mondiale members and guests were on hand to pay tribute to the First Family of Wine, the Mondavis. All four branches of this iconic family, including Peter, Tim, Rob and Margrit Mondavi were there to accept plaques from the Chaine honoring their many contributions to American wine.
03.16.2012 Pierre Rausch, Vice Conseiller Culinaire et des Professionnels National, will be inducted into the American Academy of Chefs Hall of Fame on July 15 in Orlando, Florida. Inclusion in the hall of fame is the highest honor the academy can bestow on an individual. The academy is the honor society of the American Culinary Federation.
02.07.2012 Congratulations to Bailli Provincial Bruce Liebert, elected unanimously by the Board of Directors to that position following the resignation of Fred Hellekes, who has been thanked for his service to the Chaine and its members. Also, congratulations to Grand Echanson Bruce Nichols, Chancelier Delegue, Academie de Gastronomie Brillat-Savarin Georges Muller, and Vice Echanson des Jeunes Sommeliers, Societe Mondiale du Vin Charles Bennett whose recent appointments by Bailli Delegue George H. Brown, Jr., were approved unanimously by the Board of Directors at its meeting on February 7, 2012.

What is the Chaîne?
The Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs is the world’s oldest, largest and most prestigious food and wine society. The Chaîne was founded in Paris in 1950, with roots dating to 1248 in France. It is dedicated to honoring the skills and practices of the masters of the culinary arts and those individuals who craft our libations.

Competitions & Scholarships
The Chaîne encourages the development of young chefs and sommeliers through competitions and scholarships. Each year the society sponsors regional, national and international Young Chefs competitions and Young Sommeliers competitions, while our charitable arm, the Chaîne Foundation , provides scholarships for students in those fields (more than three million dollars to date). The Chaîne maintains two sister organizations in the United States to provide specialized education as well as food and wine experiences for members.
Société Mondiale du Vin – Provides educational and tasting events relating to wine and crafted beverages of distinction.
Brillat-Savarin– Provides travel programs to immerse members in the food and beverages of a particular region of the United States or the world.
Our website maintains a database of professional members who can be located by state, city and venue. Member restaurants, wineries and hotels typically display the Chaîne logo plaque.
Our magazine, Gastronome, provides on-line links to professional member websites. Many chapters also maintain a variety of social media sites to keep in touch with their members and provide news of upcoming events.
Because the Chaîne is a worldwide organization, members are welcome to attend events anywhere they travel.
Many U.S. Chaîne members travel as ambassadors, fostering closer ties with other member nations.
